March: Jennifer Lucia

Our March author is Jennifer Lucia, who is a new to me author, and I'm so excited to read her new release Smooth Operator. I just one-clicked that baby. Check out the blurb:

Olivia Holman, author of the acclaimed Pirate Duke series, is having a pretty good day. In fact, she has just gotten the best phone call of her life- her book is getting turned into a movie starring Tyler Sutton. Yes, that Tyler Sutton. You know the one. The one in the tabloids with a different supermodel on his arm every week. The one who’s funny, smart, and charming- the one Olivia can’t stop thinking about. Tyler seems intent on making Olivia his next conquest, but Olivia doesn't want to be the latest notch on his bedpost. She resists, even as they grow closer. Olivia is torn between her heart and her head. Could there possibly be more to Tyler Sutton than the sleazy tabloid rumors would have you believe- or is Tyler just another smooth operator?

Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty! Here's my interview with Jennifer.

OMG! Smooth Operator sounds amazing! I love movie star romances! So, tell me, where did the idea for Olivia and Tyler come from? Are there any real-life celebrities that inspire his character?

I was inspired by a picture I saw of Rachel Van Dyken visiting the set of the Matchmaker's Playbook. Seeing her on set sparked so many possibilities in my mind and I took that and ran with it. And the whole time I was writing Tyler, I was imagining Chris Evans.

If any of your books could be made into a movie, which one would it be, and who would you cast in it?

I'm going to go really meta with it and say Smooth Operator. I'd cast Channing Tatum (to make Kat happy!) and Jenna Dewan- Tatum.

What’s the hardest part for you when writing a book?

Honestly, avoiding procrastination. I can sit down at my computer ready to write and bang out 3,000 words, but two hours and forty Facebook posts later, I've gotten nothing accomplished.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Please don't give up. You're lucky enough to be chasing your dream!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Just write. Even if it's complete crap, it's still better than a blank page.

Are you a plotter or a pantser? Or even a plantser?

I'm a total plotter! I plot my general arc first, then I break it down into chapters and scenes. Of course, sometimes characters change. I'd originally envisioned Tyler as a lot more sarcastic, but it didn't ring true for his character to me.

Tell me more about your book and the two main characters. Can we get an excerpt?

I actually have the first two chapters available on Instafreebie if you'd like a preview :)

What’s your favorite genre? Favorite book?

I love romance, obviously-historical, contemporary, comedy. I also love mystery and true crime novels.

What’s a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?

Historical romance! It's the first romance genre I ever read and the whole reason I fell in love with romance novels.

Would you rather have amazingly fast typing speed or be able to read ridiculously fast?

Amazingly fast typing speed, provided accuracy comes along with it.

Kiss, Marry, Kill the following characters: Christian Grey, Mr. Darcy, and Travis Maddox.

Obviously marry Mr. Darcy- who doesn't want to live in an English manor with someone who adores them despite the inferiority of their circumstances? Kill Christian Grey, kiss Travis Maddox.
