April: C.C. Wood

April 11, 2018

I’m so excited to have C.C. Wood here for April’s Author Corner.

I’m a huge fan and have read several of her books— both Paranormal and Contemporary Romance. I love her spunky heroines and alpha heroes. Today, she’s going to tell us about her latest release and answering some questions.

So, what made you want to write Paranormal Romance? Was there a book that sparked your interest or love for the genre? I have to admit Twilight was my gateway book.

I have always loved paranormal romance, but there are two authors that inspired me to actually write it—Laurell K. Hamilton and MaryJanice Davidson. I also enjoy all of Charlaine Harris' works, paranormal or not.

What was the inspiration behind this new series? You’ve written about vampires and ghosts, so why shifters?

The Blood & Bone series is actually a spin-off of the Bitten series. In Love Bites (Bitten, #4), Chloe MacArthur and Lachlan are secondary characters. Their story is the first in the Blood & Bone series. Rhys, one of the main characters in Souls Unchained (Blood & Bone, #2) was another secondary character introduced in the final book of the Bitten series, Bite the Bullet.

So, tell us about your latest release…

Forevermore is the third book in the Blood & Bone series. I actually wrote Part 1 in the fall of 2016 and released it as a novella titled, Destined by Blood. That novella is not available separately at this time, but that may change at a later date. I also intended for Part 2 to be the conclusion of the series...but that's not what happened. There are some secondary characters in the Forevermore that deserve their own HEA.

What are your writing must-haves? Food? Music or Silence? Night or Day? Anything on the TV?

My two biggest must have are coffee and music. I create playlists on Spotify for each one of my books. And I'm a legit coffee addict. It's not pretty when I don't get my caffeine fix in the morning.

What’s a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?

Ohhhh, good question! I really love sci-fi or dystopian romance. I haven't written it yet, but I'm thinking about it. Which means I already have notes in a notebook about what each book would be about. And while Destined by Blood technically qualifies as fantasy, it's the only one I've published remotely related to the genre. I'd really love to write an entire fantasy series. And I'm already letting those plans marinate in my brain.

If you had to kill one of your characters, who would it be and why?

NEVER! THEY'RE REAL PEOPLE TO ME AND I WOULD NEVER COMMIT MURDER!

If you were to have a movie made of one of your books, which one would it be and who would play the main characters?

I would love to see a movie version of the Wraith Files books. I love Zoe, Teri, Mal, Jonelle, Stoney, and Blaine. They're so much fun to write! I think that Emma Watson would make a fantastic Zoe. And though his eyes aren't brown, Zac Efron is probably the closest physically to how I imagine Mal. I have difficulty picking a "cast" for my books because I have a distinct mental image of how the characters appear.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Plotter! If I don't have an outline, I end up farting around and wasting too much time. Or getting stuck in one place for too long.

Kiss, Marry, Kill the following: Mr. Darcy, Edward Cullen, Christian Grey

Ummmm, I guess if I had to marry someone, it would be Mr. Darcy. Kiss Christian Grey. Kill Edward....not that I really have anything against Edward Cullen, I just don't think I'd want to kiss or marry him. LOL

Any advice for aspiring authors?

Stephen King mentions this often...read a lot. Write a lot. (And pick up a copy of his book, On Writing, while you're at it. Excellent book.) Seriously though, read the kind of books that you want to write and try to write a little every day, even if it ends up being two or three paragraphs. Mastering any sort of skill requires around 10,000 hours...though I'm not sure anyone can ever truly master the craft of writing because it's an ever-changing endeavor. Also, if you're interested in self-publishing, research marketing and work on building your platform before you publish your first book. Understanding the business aspects of self-publishing will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Believe me, I learned the hard way, and I'm still learning!

Would you rather… be a vampire or a shifter?

Vampire, definitely. I do, in fact, bite. Muahahaha!

Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes, but I'm going to leave it at that because I freak myself out when I think about it too much.

Would rather… Would you rather never be able to use a touchscreen or never be able to use a keyboard and mouse?

I grew up with a keyboard and a mouse, so not having a touchscreen wouldn't be too much of an adjustment.

If you could switch lives with one of your characters, who would it be and why?

Honestly, I wouldn't want to switch lives with anyone because I would miss Baby Daddy and Lil Bit, but I do think it would be fun to spend a day or two as any of my characters, especially when I'm working on their book. It would make it a lot easier to write about them!

Here's her latest release Forevermore:

Blurb:

Ava Amaris is a witch with no past. Not one that she can remember anyway.

She is cursed. For lifetimes, she's walked the earth with no knowledge of where she came from or who she once was.

Despite the loss of her memories, Ava forges a life. She has a home, a career, and friends. Yet her heart remains shielded and cold. There is no room for love within her. Her relationships are short and casual, very rarely inspiring more than mild affection.

Until she meets Macgrath, the first man to crack the stone around her heart.

Ewan Macgrath is a vampire with no future. Not without Ava by his side.

She is his mate and his chance at peace, yet she won't accept him. He can feel the fire inside her, the passion she denies, but Ava refuses to give in to him. To trust him.

While Ava fights a war of hearts and Macgrath searches for the maker he's never known, a battle of a different sort arises. They must join forces in order to defeat a dark and powerful witch who seems to know everything about them, including their origins and how they came to be cursed.

Soon, Ava and Macgrath discover that their destiny was created in another time and place, binding them with magic and blood.

Once the truth is revealed, it could destroy them...or it could make them whole.

* Forevermore is the conclusion of Destined by Blood (Blood & Bone, #2.5). Part 1 of this book contains Destined by Blood if you have not read it. If you have, Part 2 is the full-length conclusion.
