May: Julia Wolf

This month's Author's Corner features Julia Wolf, a new to me author I'm so excited to tell y'all about. As always, I asked her a few questions and here are her answers...

Can you tell me what inspired your latest novel? Where did the idea come from?

The first book in my series, Cut Short, started as a little nugget of an idea. I always think about the impact we have on each other. How one word or sentence we say to someone else might echo through theirs minds forever, while we completely forget it ever happened. Or we could brush up against someone on a crowded street, causing them to look in a different direction, and maybe they find the love of their life.

*Ooo, I like that!*

What does your workday look like?

My kids are in school full-time and I am a stay-at-home mom, so my days are free. Maybe too free. I usually fool around on twitter, write, fool around on Facebook, write some more, rinse and repeat. I get my best writing done after midnight, it seems!

If you could co-write a novel with anyone, who would it be?

I would probably co-write with Karina Halle. I’d love to see her process and bounce ideas around with her. She’s such a prolific writer, and I think the work she puts out is great, so I think I could learn from her while also contributing.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

To write. Don’t wait for perfection. Get those words on paper (or screen).

What’s a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?

I write romcoms, but I’d like to try a more dark and serious romance. Always romance though. I don’t think I could write a story without it.

Did you watch the royal wedding? What did you think?

I didn’t watch it, but I saw clips and pictures. My wedding was so stressful that I didn’t enjoy the day as much as I could have, but to me it looked like Meghan and Harry were really soaking it all in. I thought she looked gorgeous and that Harry looked like a man wildly in love with his new bride. It made this romance writer’s heart go pitter patter.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I am a pantser, totally. I usually have ideas for scenes that I want to include, but I need my characters to tell me their stories.

Kiss, Marry, Kill the following: Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt

I’d kiss Chris Evans, marry Chris Hemsworth (seriously, have you seen the video of him dancing with his kids?!) and kill Chris Pratt. He’s my least favorite of all the Chris’s.

Tell me about your book and the two main characters.

My latest book is called Cut Loose. The heroine, Frannie, appeared in the first book, Cut Short. In that book, she has the worst sex of her life with a bearded bartender named James. But it’s clear to her friends that she’s not over him. Not even a little bit.

James is quiet, broody, and only has eyes for Frannie. They have nothing in common, but somehow when they’re together, they fit perfectly.

What’s next? (book-wise)

Cut Loose releases May 31, then Cut Free will be out August 2018, followed by Pixie Cut in October/November 2018, and a unnamed Hanukkah novella in November/December to cap off the year.

I'll be buying my copy today!

A broody bartender, a sassy-as-hell dancer, and a surprise twist on second chances; this swoon-worthy romantic comedy will have you laughing, blushing, and believing that maybe opposites do attract. Can be read as a standalone!

We had one night together six months ago. One terrible, no good tangle in the sheets.

I should be over him, right?

But James, with his gorgeous, ginger beard, shoulders that go on for miles, and soft, steady manner, is the only thing I can think about.

We couldn't be more different. James is quiet and reserved, where I've never had a thought I didn't express. He's broody with a tendency to be reclusive and I'm just a little bit reckless and a whole lot of wild.

But when we meet in the middle? Those differences don't seem to matter very much.

And now I wonder if maybe, just maybe, we can have a second chance at our first time.
