June: Amali Rose

This month's author is Amali Rose! She's an Australian author, and former blogger, who released her debut novella in 2017. I can't wait to find out more about her and her books!

Can you tell me what inspired your latest novel? Where did the idea come from?

When I was writing my first book, Under The Cherry Blossoms, it was only supposed to be a standalone. But, as I was writing, the story for each of the heroine's friends came to me. Each character had her own story that I needed to tell and the more I wrote, the more forceful the stories became, until I gave in and decided to make it a four part standalone series.

What does your workday look like?

I work part time, so Tuesday to Thursday I work my day job and try to sneak in any writing time, I can. On the other days, I try treat writing as a normal job and aim to write from 9-5. This is taking some getting used to, though, and I have to admit it's a work in progress (FB is so damn distracting, lol!).

If you could co-write a novel with anyone, who would it be?

Oh, this is a really tough question! I have author friends such as Joz Maxel, Eva Jones, Harper Phoenix and Sienna Grant, who I would love to write with. I think we would have a lot of fun! Then there's my unicorn authors like Jana Aston, J. Daniels, Helena Hunting, Meghan Quinn, Adriana Locke, LJ Shen, Sierra Simone (I could go on and on and on and on!) who would be the ultimate dream co-authors!

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Don't let fear scare you off. It can be really frightening putting yourself out there, but trust in yourself and surround yourself with good people who want to see you succeed.

What’s a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?

At this stage I've only written contemporary romance. I would be interested in trying something a bit darker in the future, I feel like it would be a great challenge.

If you could be one of your characters, who would it be and why?

I'd probably be choose Cassidy. She's the complete opposite of me and I'd love to have her confidence and spirit!

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

For my first two books I did a very brief outline. My current WIP, I am pantsing it and just seeing where the story takes me.

Tell me about your book and the two main characters.

My current WIP is Amongst The Wildflowers. It's a friends to lovers romance about Layla and Ethan. Layla is shy, quietly determined, loyal and has a heart of gold. Ethan is outgoing, athletic, protective and loving.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Just do it. Get out of your head, and f@!king do it!

What’s next? (book-wise)

Amongst The Wildflowers will release on September 6th and then I'll begin working on the final book in the Fleurs d'amour Series, Breathing Wisteria.

(I really love her titles!)

Where does your writing inspiration come from?

It can come from anywhere! Friends, music, memories, movies, literally anywhere!

What does your writing space look like? (Can we see?)

I don't have a designated writing space (hopefully one day!) I usually write on the couch, in bed or at a café (which is where I am right now!)
