November: Katrina Marie

November 24, 2018

This month's author is none other than my friend Katrina Marie!

Katrina Marie lives in the Dallas area with her husband, two children, and fur baby. She is a lover of all things geeky and Gryffindor for life. When she’s not writing you can find her at her children’s sporting events, or curled up reading a book.

Here's what she had to say about her next book, writing, and Thanksgiving!

Can you tell me what inspired your latest novel? Where did the idea come from?

These characters started speaking to me while I was writing Ways to Go. Marshall is Jake’s best friend, and his interest in Bianca was something that he never saw coming. I knew then that he’d be willing to do whatever it takes to win her heart.

What does your workday look like?

Monday through Friday, I get up and work at the dreaded day job. I’d like to say I get to work on writing things when I get home, but I don’t. I spend time with the kidlets and help them with their homework. But as soon as they go to bed… It’s on. I get most of writing done when they go to sleep or during my lunch hour at work. The weekends are fair game as long as we don’t have anything going on.

If you could co-write a novel with anyone, who would it be?

I have co-written a book with CL King. It’s a second chance romance with a baseball player and Broadway actress. But I’d also LOVE to work with Kelsie Rae and Tasha Lewis.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Don’t give up. I think that’s the biggest piece of advice. There are days when it’s hard. The words aren’t flowing, or you don’t have a support system for your dream. Keep going. You never know where your dreams will lead you!

What’s a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?

Paranormal romance is a genre I’d love to write. And luckily, I have a few ideas brewing in my brain for a couple of YA stories.

What are your hobbies outside of writing?

I love to crochet things for the family, and I dabble in photography. I’m not great at it, but it’s fun for me. I also love going to concerts and if I could afford to go to them all the time, I would.

If you had to go to dinner with one of your characters, who would it be, where would you go, and why?

I would probably go to dinner with Charleigh from Ways to Go. She’s the character I connect with the most, and we both have a love for tattoos. We’d probably go to some hole in the wall taco place because let’s face it, tacos are LIFE!

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I used to be a total pantser, and that bit me in the ass a few times. Now I’m a proud plantser. I have a loose plot but let the characters lead me wherever they want to go.

Kiss, Marry, Kill the following: Jacob Elordi (The Kissing Booth), Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Michiel Huisman (The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society)

Kiss: Michiel Huisman

Marry: Noah Centineo

Kill: Jacob Elordi

That was hard because I love them all!

Tell me about your book.

My Only Wish is You is a second chance romance that takes place during Christmas break. Marshall is trying to win the heart of the girl he fell for, and Bianca is doing her best to keep from falling from his charms. Marshall is so freaking swoony and Bianca has some salty moments, but she’s a softy at heart.

What’s your favorite book?

The Harry Potter series, hands down. I’m actually doing my annual re-read right now, and I never want to leave Hogwarts.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (Can be writing related or life in general)?

To follow my dreams. My parents always tell me to go after what I want.

What’s next? (book-wise)

Well… the next book in the Taking Chances series comes out in February. It’s called From This Moment, and it’s Tonya & Reaf’s wedding novella. Hint… EVERYTHING goes wrong. But I’m currently writing Shoot Down the Stars which will release next summer. It’s about Tonya’s cousin, Amelia, and Jake’s friend, Randall. They’ve both been dealt some hard blows.

Would you rather … live without the internet or live without AC and heating?

Live without internet. I live in Texas and it’s way too hot to live without AC.

Where do you write and can we see a picture?

There isn’t one specific place I write. Sometimes it’s at work and other times it’s wherever I can get words in. I’ve been known to write at my son’s sporting events when he’s not playing.

Which of your characters is your favorite and why?

Tonya is probably my favorite. Mostly because she is the first character I’ve ever written. She is the one that started me on this journey. I never thought what I had planned to be one book would turn into a series.

If you could have a character guest appearance in any of your books from another author's series, who would it be?

Probably Breezy from Kelsie Rae’s Signature Sweethearts series. She seems like she’d fit in really well with Tonya and her friends.

What are your writing must-haves?

Something to drink, obviously. It ranges from tea, coffee, water, or Big Red. I almost always have M&M’s with me when I write, too. I reward myself every 500 words with candy. :P

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Dessert, any of them. Seriously, I’m not picky. Bring on the sweets!

What do you and your family do on Thanksgiving?

We eat and watch Football. Occasionally we’ll take naps because let’s face it… Thanksgiving food is great for putting you in a food coma.

When do you put up your Christmas decorations?

It depends. I usually try to wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving, but if we don’t have my oldest home that weekend, we’ll put them up the weekend before.

What is your favorite thing to make for Thanksgiving?

Cheesecake. I can’t eat it because of pesky lactose intolerance. But, I love making it because it’s simple and quick. I can make quite a few at one time.

Pumpkin or Pecan Pie?

Pumpkin!!! Everything pumpkin! I like pecans, but not in my pie.

Thank you so much for agreeing to let me interrog-- I mean interview you! ;)

Here's Katrina Marie's lastest release:

Release Date: 11/8/18

Blurb:

It was only supposed to be a summer fling.

Marshall left the only girl he ever truly cared about. Not because he wanted to but because he had to. Now, it’s Christmas break and he wants to prove that they’re made for each other.

Bianca locked herself away when Marshall left, not even telling him goodbye. Now that Marshall is back, she’s struggling to keep the walls she built intact.

Can Marshall convince Bianca to give them another chance? Will Bianca allow her fears to keep her from finding happiness?
