January: Sadie Allen
This month is me! Let's see how I answer the questions I usually ask other authors.
Can you tell me what inspired your latest novel? Where did the idea come from?
The novel I'm working on now is the second in a series I started this year. It's inspired by the place I grew up--small Texas lake community--and just my love for a great second chance romance/mystery story. The idea of Fee came from my struggle with my OCD tendencies and how I relate a lot situations in my life to music. Music inspires me a lot. Also, her cafe is inspired by one in Waxahachie, Texas called Farm Luck. Kody... well, he just came to me. I didn't know I was going to give him a book until I was halfway through Always Been You.
What does your workday look like?
Differs from day to day. Depends on what I have going with my kids (I have three). Usually, I get up at 5am and try to get some words in, and then I write when I can in between taking care of my two year old and running my older two to their activities.
If you could co-write a novel with anyone, who would it be?
Kristen Ashley! Hands down. She's my favorite author. Lani Lynn Vale, Marianna Zapata and Suzanne Wright would be next on my list.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Never give up. There are no rules when it comes to writing, so do what you have to do to write your story. Just find what works for you.
What’s a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?
Cozy Mystery
What are your hobbies outside of writing?
Reading? lol
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Both. I outline a little bit but most of it is by the seat of my pants.
Kiss, Marry, Kill the following: Jason Momoa, Justin Timberlake, Sam Heughan
Kiss Justin, Marry Sam, and Kill Jason.
This was hard!
Tell me about your book.
Like I mentioned, this book is the next in the Cedar Lake Series.
Kody is a widower who lost his wife very young and refuses to fall in love again since it would betray her memory, but when his wandering takes him to Cedar Lake and he meets Fee... She's the only woman who has ever challenged his resolve. They've danced around each other for years--him fighting the pull of her and she fighting her fear of rejection. Something goes down between them during the events of Always Been You and it drives Fee away from him. Now, he must make a decision on whether he will fight for love again, but he'll have to hurry since there are dark forces who want to seperate them... permanently.
What’s your favorite book?
Anything by Kristen Ashley, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, and Harry Potter
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (Can be writing related or life in general)?
Don't worry about things that you have no control over, live in the now, in the moment, because tomorrow has it's own troubles.
What’s next? (book-wise)
The final book in the Cedar Lake Series, Always Love You, which is Bran and Bridgette's story. Then I'll be going back to YA and writing Killing Devon Peters.
Would you rather … be completely invisible for one day or be able to fly for one day?
Invisible
Where do you write and can we see a picture?
Either at the kitchen table or in my living room chair.
If you could have a character guest appearance in any of your books from another author's series, who would it be?
Tex from the Rock Chick Series.
Do you make New Year's Resolutions? If so, what are they?
Yes and this year was to be more positive and more productive.
What did you do for New Year's Eve?
Nothing. Stayed up by myself and watched TV.
When do you put away your Christmas decorations?
January 1st
What books are you looking forward to reading this year?
Free by Kristen Ashey, Dominc's book in the Pheonix Pack Series by Suzanne Wright, and anything by Lani Lynn Vale.
What were your favorite books this past year?
The Bear Bottom Guardians Series by Lani Lynn Vale, Shiver by Suzanne Wright, Wild Like The Wind by Kristen Ashley, and Stumbling Into Him by Molly O' Hare
