March: Elle Thorpe
This month's author is my friend Elle Thorpe! I'm so excited for y'all to meet her and learn more about her and her books.
Can you tell me what inspired your latest novel? Where did the idea come from?
My latest book, Only the Negatives, is the third book in a standalone series. The heroine, Gemma, is the younger sister of a character in book one. Gemma is paraplegic, and even though she was only ten in the first book, something about her really spoke to me, and I started thinking about skipping the series forward ten years so I could give her a story of her own. I seem to have a thing for writing about somewhat difficult, or uncommon subjects. But my readers always like those books the best, so I pushed myself to do the research and get Gemma's story right. And I'm really proud of how it turned out. The reviews have been amazing.
What’s a genre you haven’t written but would like to try?
Oh, I might be giving away some of my secret plans, but I really want to write a sci-fi romance series. I've had this Mad Max type world planned out with some bad ass aliens that fall fast and hard for their women. There'd be gangs and wars and a fight for the crown but still all the swoon worthy romance in between. I'm still not 100% sure I'm going to write it as it's completely off brand for me...but these characters have been nagging me for a good few months now and sometimes the only way to shut them up is to let them out.
What are your hobbies outside of writing?
I read as much as I can. And I love photography and graphic design.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Oh, definitely a plotter. I pantsed once and that story is 75k words of rubbish that goes nowhere. I plot out ALL my stories, scene by scene, in excruciating detail now. My outlines are basically a full story in themselves. And then I send them to my critique partners, who help me figure out if there's any holes. This all makes the actual writing part sooooo much easier and quicker.

Tell me about your book.
Only the Negatives is an enemies to lovers, second chance romance set in a rural country town in Australia. Gemma, our paraplegic heroine finds herself running her family farm after her father has a stroke. She's a pretty bad ass, independent woman, but there is too much work for even her to take on. Cue, Adam Ryker, the boy that made her life miserable in high school. He's the only one who'll take the job so she's stuck with hiring him, or losing everything. But Ryker has a closet full of skeletons, and a secret so big it could crush them both.
What’s next? (book-wise)
I'm currently editing book 4 in the Only You series! It's called Only the Beginning and features two characters that have been fan favourites since book 1! There's SO much drama in this book! We've got red carpets, a sex tape scandal, rejected marriage proposals and babies being born all over the place. SO much going on in this one, and it has been a blast to write. It hasn't got a release date yet, but I'm hoping for late April.
Would you rather … always be 10 minutes late or always be 20 minutes early?
Haha, I'm almost always twenty minutes early to everything already. I HATE being late. With a passion. It's my biggest pet peeve.
Which of your characters is your favorite and why?
Argh! It's close, and for a long time, I would have said Low, the hero of Only the Positive... But then I wrote Doctor Damien.Oh boy. He's got the tat's and the body and he's a bit on the dirty side. If you could have a character guest appearance in any of your books from another author's series, who would it be?
100%, one of the brothers from JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. Probably Z. Or maybe Rhage. Or Qhuinn. Can I just have them all? I can't pick a favourite. I have no idea how this would work, because JR Ward's books are nothing like mine, but ahhhh I'm sure JR and I could come up with something amazing! haha.
